Back Where It Started – Welcome Back, Paul

Sometimes the best career paths aren’t straight lines.
In July 2017, Paul joined Analyse² as a freshly graduated mathematician from the University of Helsinki, with computer science as a minor subject and programming as a strong personal interest. Analyse² was his first real step into the software industry.
What started as a first job quickly turned into more than five years of building demanding SaaS solutions for retailers together with our team. During those years, Paul worked on products such as Analyse² Assortment Planning and Analyse² Campaign Planning.
After 5,3 years at Analyse², life called for a pause and a change of scenery.
“Analyse² was my first real workplace, and different changes in life made me think about what I really wanted. I decided to take some time for myself and also wanted to experience programming in a completely different domain.”
Now, more than 3,5 years later, Paul has returned to familiar products, familiar challenges and perhaps most importantly, familiar people.
“The decision became easy”
During his time away, Paul gained experience in a very different environment and learned how software development challenges can vary across industries.
“I got to apply my skills in a completely different context. It gave me a new perspective on software development and helped me grow professionally. Seeing different ways of solving problems ultimately makes you better at your craft.”
But when new career opportunities started appearing again, an unexpected conversation opened the door to something familiar.
“I was exploring new opportunities and asked Antti (Analyse² CTO) if I could still use him as a reference. A couple of days later, the possibility of returning came up.”
And in the end, the biggest reason for coming back was simple.
“The people. Even though some things have changed, I knew there would still be genuinely great colleagues here. Once the opportunity to return existed, the decision became easy.”
Some things change, some stay the same
A lot can happen in 3,5 years. Teams evolve, tools evolve and the software industry certainly evolves.
“There are some new faces now, and AI tools are part of everyday work today. But otherwise, the environment feels surprisingly familiar.”
What stood out immediately after returning?
“The absurd amount of teddy bears in the office is fantastic!”
(We chose not to question this statement too deeply.)
A workplace built on people
When asked what originally made him stay at Analyse2 for more than five years, Paul’s answer was immediate:
“The colleagues and the culture were — and still are — excellent. It always felt like support was available, whether the issue was work-related or personal.”
That sense of continuity matters. Technology changes fast, products evolve constantly and businesses grow through different phases, but culture is what makes people come back.
And sometimes, that says more than any marketing message ever could.
Welcome back, Paul.
